The 5 key elements of emotional intelligence according to D. Goleman. The famous American psychologist has enriched and popularized the concept of Emotional Intelligence (which we sometimes find abbreviated as "IE") that his peers Mayer and Salovey had previously proposed. Goleman notably defines 5 pillars intrinsic to EI: 
awareness of its functioning: able to identify its own emotions and what each can induce in others. 

self-control: able to control and channel one's emotions, not to be overwhelmed, especially by stress. Identify your emotions to better channel them
Only 1/3 of individuals are able to precisely identify the emotions that pass through them.
